Micro-Surgical Alloys & Compliance

Select a surgical alloy below to view the structural characteristics and micro-tolerances we enforce during raw material controls.

Titanium Alloy — Ti-6Al-4V (Grade 5)

Highly preferred for micro ophthalmic instruments. Titanium is completely non-magnetic, corrosion-proof, and 45% lighter than steel, drastically reducing hand fatigue.

Non-magnetic:100% MRI safe / Zero magnetic attraction
Weight Ratio:Ultra lightweight for micro-manipulations
Primary Uses:Capsulorhexis Forceps, Micro Needle Holders
Clinical application: Non-fatiguing microsurgery

Martensitic Steel — AISI 420

Commonly used for micro-surgical scissors requiring absolute sharpness and clean shearing edges without tearing fine ocular tissues.

Carbon Content:0.15% - 0.40% (For high hardenability)
Hardness Target:HRC 50 - 54 (Maximum edge sharpness)
Primary Uses:Corneal Scissors, Iris Scissors, Trephine blades
Corrosion resistance factor: High after proper passivation & satin polishing

Austenitic Steel — AISI 304

Highly malleable with excellent corrosion resistance. This steel class does not harden via heat treatment and is completely non-magnetic.

Nickel Content:8.0% - 10.5% (Non-magnetic structural core)
Primary Quality:Highly resistant to chemical sterilization solutions
Primary Uses:Lid Speculums, Cannulas, Non-active handles
Chemical stability rating: Top grade

Tungsten Carbide Inlays (TC)

Specialized micro-grain tungsten carbide plates are permanently vacuum-brazed to the working jaws of micro needle holders to provide a non-slip grip on micro-sutures (9-0 and 10-0).

Hardness Level:HV 1500+ (Extreme wear performance)
Visual Indicator:Gold-plated rings/handles for distinct identity
Primary Uses:TC Micro Needle Holders, TC Wire Cutters
Active service lifespan: Up to 5x conventional steel

Titanium Grade 5 is highly preferred in ophthalmology because it is 45% lighter than stainless steel, reducing surgeon hand fatigue during micro-manipulations. Additionally, it is completely non-magnetic, making it MRI safe and preventing magnetic interference with micro-sutures.
Our micro-scissors (such as corneal and iris scissors) are hand-finished under microscopes to achieve tip tolerances as small as 0.1mm. This ensures extremely precise cut edges without crushing or tearing the ocular tissue.
We apply specialized non-reflective surface finishes to our ophthalmic line. This includes satin polishing, sand-blasting, or black e-coating, which significantly minimizes glare and reflection under high-intensity operating room microscopes.
